Five-star legend
The Park Hyatt Tokyo has to be one of the most sought-after hotel stays on the planet. This has much to do with its leading role in Sofia Coppola’s Hollywood debut Lost in Translation. Needless to say I was pinching myself when I checked into this iconic hotel.

Sparkling views
What makes this hotel so special is the panoramic views of Tokyo at every turn. On a clear day you can see spectacular views of Mount Fuji in the distance. At nighttime the cityscape sparkles from the New York Bar where you can take it all in over live jazz and an expertly crafted cocktail or two.

Breakfast of champions
Breakfast is an elaborate affair where all of your morning wishes come true. Served inside their French-inspired brasserie, there’s a breakfast buffet or a carefully curated menu with the likes of buttermilk pancakes, Belgian waffles and eggs benedict. Everything is beautifully presented and tastes even better than it looks, if that’s even possible. I ordered the French toast with blueberry compote and a selection fresh fruits and wasn’t quite expecting the beautiful spread that arrived.

Iconic rooms
Lost in Translation fans will want to spend a night in the suite where much of the movie was shot. But no matter where you choose to sleep you’ll be more than satisfied with the tastefully designed rooms which all feature original artwork and exquisite woods. Little touches like the Aesop beauty products and the selection of Japanese tea all add to your comfort.

The Peak Lounge
There’s no better place to enjoy an early evening aperitif than at the Peak Lounge which boasts jaw-dropping views of the cityscape. It’s a beautiful juxtaposition between nature and modernity with a verdant bamboo garden in the centre, framed by floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city’s shiny skyscrapers.
